Chipcon Introduces CC2431: The World's First System-on-Chip Solution With Location Estimation Capability

Chipcon AS, the world's leading provider of low system cost, low power RF chipsets and networking software, today announced the availability of the CC2431, a true System-on-Chip (SoC) IEEE 802.15.4 low power wireless sensor networking solution, also targeting ZigBee(TM) solutions. Mini windmills power wireless networks

Power can be scavenged from a gentle breeze.

Nature.com has a really interesting article today about tiny little windmills that can be used to power wireless sensor devices, eliminating the need to worry about battery life or external power sources. An engineer at the University of Texas, Arlington has created a mini-windmill about 10 centimeters across that can generate 7.5 milliwatts from a gentle breeze of 16 kilometers per hour.
